I'm actually impressed, CCP. You have achieved what we all thought was impossible: you have unified the EVE playerbase. Against you.
The content of that newsletter is pants-on-head ******ed at best, and moustache-twirlingly malicious at worst.
Though, perhaps, "best" and "worst" ought to be reversed; after all, maliciousness implies some degree of agency and forethought, versus the uniquely :ccp: brand of shortsightedness that is par for the course.

We live in interesting times; in fact CCP is the kind of company that if things get repetitive we instinctively crank it up a notch. That, we certainly have done this week. First of we have Incarna, an amazing technological and artistic achievement. A vision from years ago realized to a point that no one could have imaged but a few months ago. It rolls out without a hitch, is in some cases faster than what we had before, this is the pinnacle of professional achievement. For all the noise in the channel we should all stand proud, years from now this is what people will remember.
But we have done more, not only have we redefined the production quality one can apply to virtual worlds with the beautiful Incarna but we have also defined what it really means to make virtual reality more meaningful than real life when it comes to launching our new virtual goods currency, Aurum.
Naturally, we have caught the attention of the world. Only a few weeks ago we revealed more information about DUST 514 and now we have done it again by committing to our core purpose as a company by redefining assumptions. After 40 hours we have already sold 52 monocles, generating more revenue than any of the other items in the store.
This we have done after months of research by a group of highly competent professionals, soliciting input and perspective from thought leaders and experts in and around our industry. We have communicated our intention here internally in very wide circles through the Virtual Economy Summit presentation at the GSM, our Fearless newsletter, sprint reviews, email lists and multiple other channels. This should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this for a decade, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what our players do and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change.
We went out with a decisive strategy on pricing and we will stay the course and not flip flop around or knee jerk react to the predictable. That is not saying nothing will change, on the contrary, in fact we know that success in this space is through learning and adapting to _what is actually happening_ and new knowledge gained in addition to what we knew before and expected.
All that said, I couldn+ót be prouder of what we have accomplished as a company, changing the world is hard and we are doing it as so many times before! Stay the course, we have done this many times before.

Originally by: Anonymous CCP Employee CCP does not take criticism well and often ignores retrospectives. Criticism is considered to be a negative attitude and is severely frowned upon. A lot of effort goes into maintaining a good morale with a lot of internal PR. After all itÆs cheaper to print posters than pay an average salary to employees.
Several years now CCP has predicated insane subscriber goals that cannot be met. Naturally this is met with scepticism by the employees but it falls on deaf ears. The result is that the company is suffering because we cannot sustain the development of EVE, DUST and WOD. EVE is not creating enough revenue which means that solutions are sought, solutions that CCP was vehemently against a few years ago.

Threadtitan is indeed too forced.
Threadageddon. Threadnarok. Threadblob. All are acceptable.

CCP's next revenue-earning attempt will be an EVE newsletter titled "Send us your $ and we'll send you back double!"

Planning lectures about community management, oddly.

Originally by: Arteriamus I know this will get me killed, but i actually rather like the new changes, as long as it sticks to being novelty items that are for sale. If it starts being ships/sp/standings, then it will quickly spiral out of control, as people feel that they cannot be a part of the game without these items.
That won't get you killed at all, in fact that's a fairly common viewpoint and the one I myself hold.
I miss the old hangar, and it beats the **** out of a static door for people who don't want CQ, and being forced to adopt CQ is foolish. I don't mind CQ myself, and I think it will be beneficial for new players, but people who don't want it should be able to have the old hangar back. The new turrets are cool (though more and more I suspect that they rebuilt the turret slot system to allow more room for non-vanity MT). Vanity-only MT isn't a problem for 99% of the players who are upset.
What is upsetting is:
- The signs pointing to non-vanity MT.
- The signs pointing to the removal of content with the intention of selling it back to us.
- The lies regarding this topic.
- The unwillingness to communicate.

Edited by: Pherick Sjang on 26/06/2011 21:06:11 The CSM, both CSM5 and CSM6, have already told CCP what they think of the issue, time and time again, for months.
The CSM was clear - no non-vanity microtransactions.
So what is there to meet and discuss, hm?

CCP Zulu's nonblog indicated there'd be no further comment from CCP on the MT issue until the CSM meeting.
So basically they told us to go **** ourselves and take the yellow question with us.

The CSM said a dozen times over "No Microtransacations, and if we MUST have microtransactions, nothing that influences the game world" and every single time CCP said "Absolutely!"
They then went on to say "You too can join CCP for a low up front fee of $500,000,000! We'll even ship all your stuff to Iceland for free!" - Incarnageddon (now 200% more readable) |
